Hemingway On Stage has turned into a multi play series!
What started out
as a one year project has yielded so much material that that the play has
turned into a vast epic and will require about five separate plays before
it is completed.
Part I: Sunrise,
The Early Years is a two act play dealing with Hemingway's early years in
Oak Park and Northern Michigan and it also has a good segment about his
service in World War One. It debuted during
Hemingway Days Festival in Key West on July 15, 2003 at the Waterfront
Playhouse. The opening Gala was a fundraiser for the Key West Arts and
Historical Society. All proceeds went to the case and maintenance of their
Hemingway collection. The audience reaction was wonderful and the reviews
were tremendous.
Part II
The Lost Generation is under way and will be
presented at the Waterfront Playhouse in Key West July 20, 21, 22, and
23, 2004.. In it, he gets
married to his first wife in Act One. In Act Two, he will arrive in Paris,
return to Toronto for the birth of his child, and then travel to Spain
where he finds the material for The Sun Also Rises. My second play will
probably end with his separation from his first wife and the desire for a
second marriage. All is approved for Part II to debut at the 2004
Hemingway Days Festival in Key West
Anyone interested in future performances of the play must be aware that
the play will be performed without fee but only for charity and only to
maintain Hemingway materials. Do contact me if you have any questions.
